This is really interesting but a real "time waster" A great way to keep up to date with what your friends are up to and to communicate whether its "wall to wall" or "live chat".
The sites mentioned "Facebook", "Twitter", and "My Space" are all popular with young people and some not so young people! A great way for libraries to advertise an upcoming activity or promotion which they want to get out to a large audience.
Clients could possibly discuss certain books or topics on social networking sites and meet other people with similar interests.

I agree, use twitter to promote the service - upcoming activities and projects, successful past events, opening hours, haiku reviews... all possible
